A drunken boyfriend who attacked his girlfriend in The Ritz after she refused to have sex with him on Valentine’s Day has escaped jail.

Ryhs Weatherburn was handed a community order and fined at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (March 2) after admitting to one count of assault by beating and one count of criminal damage at an earlier hearing.

The 20-year-old had booked himself and partner Shannon Fidge into a £329-a-night room at world famous Piccadilly hotel last month to celebrate the romantic holiday.

Alcohol problems

But when his hopes of amorous dalliance were dashed following a row he turned violent and was thrown out of the hotel by staff.

At the earlier hearing on February 17, when Weatherburn pleaded guilty to the charges, the court was told the defendant was dealing with alcohol problems.

According to The Mirror, prosecutor Nicola Flint said at the earlier hearing: “The defendant and the complainant, who have been in a relationship for around a year and a half, were staying at the hotel for Valentine’s Day.

“They had a meal earlier in the evening and had an argument. He left the complainant on her own in central London for around ten minutes.”

Concerned guests raise the alarm

When the couple returned to the hotel Miss Fidge got into bed. Weatherburn wanted sex and said his partner was being stupid when she refused.

The court heard he shook her arms aggressively and pushed her onto the bed. Another guest heard her cries for help and alerted staff, who removed the defendant from the premesis.

Ms Flint said police had called twice previously to deal with domestic incidents with Weatherburn and Miss Fidge after he had been drinking.

Weatherburn, from Sheephurst Lane in Tonbridge, Kent was given an 18-month community order and 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs, £100 victim compensation and a £60 victim surcharge.
