A man from West Drayton has been sentenced to 16-weeks in prison after he was seen spitting at his partner outside a court.

Harry Wilkes, of Maple Avenue, was appearing at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on July 3 in relation to a previous incident of domestic abuse against his 26-year-old partner, a Met Police spokesman said.

While outside the building, next to Hillingdon Police Station, the 23-year-old spat in his partner's face, police said.

Unknown to him, a police detective witnessed this happen outside his office and intervened. Wilkes was subsequently arrested by police.

DC Mark Henry, from Hillingdon CID, said: "Wilkes was already appearing at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court for sentencing [for] a previous incident.

"He was going to receive a suspended sentence however, once District Judge Wright was made aware of the further incident which had happened outside court the previous [Friday] she changed her mind.

"Wilkes was then sentenced to 16-weeks imprisonment and awarded £100 compensation to the victim."
