A man who sent an explicit video of a sleeping woman to her work colleague, because he thought they were dating, has been jailed for six months.

After sending the message, Michael O’Riley went on to bombard the man with dozens of racially abusive text messages.

He also harassed the woman, who he had been dating, when she said she wanted nothing more to do with him.

O’Riley was sentenced to six months at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (October 19) for racially aggravated public disorder, and received a further six months' imprisonment for disclosing private sexual images - the video - of the female, which were taken in Kensington and Chelsea borough.

The 32-year-old, from Cranleigh Gardens, in Bridgewater, Somerset, was also handed a 12-week concurrent sentence for harassment.

He had struck up a relationship with the female in May this year through social media.

Without her knowledge, he took an explicit video of her while she was sleeping and sent it to a male work colleague whose details he found on her mobile phone.

He had found text messages between the pair and wrongly believed they were in a relationship.

Over the following weeks O’Riley bombarded the man with dozens of offensive text messages, including racially abusive ones.

When the female victim found out about the footage he had taken of her she told O’Riley she wanted nothing further to do with him, but he continued to send her messages and called her more than 100 times.

Officers from Kensington and Chelsea Community Safety Unit investigated as the explicit video was taken in the Royal borough.

O’Riley was arrested in Liverpool on October 5 and charged two days later.

Trainee Detective Constable Mo Osman, from Kensington and Chelsea Police, said: “O’Riley sent vile and highly racially offensives messages to the victims, as well as sharing sexual images the victim did not know he had taken.

“I am pleased that the gravity of his crimes has been acknowledged by the judge with a custodial sentence.”
