A 24-year-old man has been jailed for attempted murder after shooting a man at "point-blank range" in Hammersmith.

Perry Wilson, of Queen Caroline Street in Hammersmith , was sentenced to 30 years in prison comprising of a 25 year custodial term with a 5 year extension period, after he was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.

He was sentenced to eight years for the possession of a firearm at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (December 19).

Both prison sentences will be served concurrently.

On April 15 this year police were called to Albion Mews in Hammersmith at around 11.10pm to reports of a man being shot.

London Ambulance Service also attended the incident, finding a 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

Perry Wilson was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm

He was taken to hospital where he underwent major surgery for two gunshot wounds in the abdomen.

The victim has now made a full recovery.

During the trial in November, the court heard how he was targeted by the gunman, who was a former friend, after they fell out.

The victim had attended a birthday party and the pair's dispute escalated leading to a near fatal shooting.

DC Shon Young, investigating officer from Trident and Area Crime Command, said: "The victim was shot once in the stomach at point-blank range, and had it not been for the initial first aid given by people at the scene it is unlikely that he would have survived.

"It is believed that Wilson went to Albion Mews that day knowing the victim would be there, with the intent to kill him.

"The motive behind this attack will never truly be known, however Wilson's involvement in the shooting was discovered following an investigation by Trident officers.

"There can be no justification for the use of illegal firearms on the streets of London.

"This sentence sends out a clear message that such criminality will not be tolerated and as a result another person who is prepared to use violence with a firearm is now in jail serving a long sentence."

After an investigation was launched, Wilson was identified as a suspect.

Khalid Amer was jailed for assisting an offender

It is believed he travelled to Dover to stay at a friend's house in the days after the shooting, in what police say was an attempt to evade capture.

He later attended a police station and was charged on April 28 with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm.

The firearm has not been recovered.

Enquiries revealed Wilson was in close contact with a 21-year-old man, Khalid Amer, after the shooting.

Police say Amer had organised and put into motion plans for Wilson to lay low in Dover.

On Tuesday (December 19) Amer, of Glenthorne Road in Hammersmith, was sentenced to two years and eight months’ imprisonment for assisting an offender.
