An Edgware man has been jailed for possession of a prohibited weapon.

Manoj Sivarayan, 32, of Brinkburn Gardens, was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday (March 13) for possession of a prohibited weapon and sentenced to three years imprisonment.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.

On May 13 last year, Mr Sivarayan's home address was searched in relation to another previous arrest. During this search, officers located a stun gun, a section five firearm outlined in the Firearms Act 1968.

When Manoj was interviewed about the weapon, he said that the bedroom with which it was found was not his, and belonged to a man who was out of the country.

He went on to say that he had indeed seen the stun gun before and that he had tried to get it to work.

Discrepancies with Manoj Sivarayan's account compared to others led to a decision to charge him.

Detective Constable for Brent, Claire McGlynn, said: “I hope this sentence sends the message that police and the courts take this type of crime extremely seriously and that people caught will face a lengthy time in jail.”
