A man has died after being pulled from a Kensington basement which was filled with fumes.

London Fire Brigade firefighters wearing breathing apparatus pulled the unconscious man onto the street in Berkeley Gardens just after 4pm on Tuesday (July 25).

Despite paramedics best efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene just after 4.30pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said there were concerns relating to fumes within the basement area of the building.

London Fire Brigade also attended the incident and road closures were put in place and a cordon placed around the scene.

Officers say they believed they know the identity of the deceased and enquiries are ongoing to trace his next of kin.
