A man was arrested after he punched a police officer in the face at Notting Hill Carnival.

The officer sustained a dislocated noise, split lip and swollen knee as he detained a suspect in a bust on alleged illegal street trading of 400 nitrous oxide canisters, according to the Met Police.

A man was arrested in Lonsdale Road for actual bodily harm (ABH) on Monday (August 31).

Investigations are ongoing.

The police officer was treated by medics before he resumed his duties.

During the carnival weekend, police said more than 3,500 canisters had been seized by police with a street value of over £17,000.

Investigations into the nitrous oxide canisters have been referred to Trading Standards officers from Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
