A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in West Hendon in which a woman was killed.

The 26-year-old was arrested following the fail to stop collision on Sunday (February 22) at around 6am.

Police were called following reports of a collision involving a car and a female pedestrian on the A5.

Officers and paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended and found a woman, aged in her 40s, with injuries. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

The driver of the car - a silver Mercedes C Class - failed to stop at the scene and continued to drive northbound.

At around 6pm on Sunday, a 26-year-old man attended Collindale police station where he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene. He has been bailed until a date in late April.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Pidgeon, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "There were a number of people who may have witnessed the events in the lead up to the collision or the actual collision itself.

"If anyone does have any information I urge them to come forward and help us with our investigation."
