Police have sealed off a large area behind the Treaty Centre in Hounslow while they deal with an incident.

There are major delays for motorists in the area after Hanworth Road in Hounslow was closed off at the junction of Grove Road and Chapel Road at around 3am on Friday (October 7).

At least 17 bus routes operating in the area have been placed on diversion.

However the Treaty Centre has confirmed the shopping centre remains open as normal and has not been affected.

Congestion has built up in Staines Road to Hounslow Heath and in Hanworth Road to Isleworth.

Reports on social media site Twitter say the area remains extremely congested this morning.

@JohnnyCLondon tweeted: "Roads closed around the Treaty Centre for some reason. Surrounding area is very congested."

People are warning others to stay away from the area.

@bytey123 said: "Don't head to work via Hounslow. Buses being diverted and treaty centre closed by police."
