Heavy traffic on the west London stretch of the M4 is expected to ease after overnight roadworks overran.

The eastbound carriageway was closed overnight for Highways England works between Junctions 3 ( Hayes ) and 2 ( Brentford ), but the organisation said at 6am on Thursday (September 14) that the road remained closed.

Transport for London then tweeted that “traffic was solid” from Junction 4 of the motorway, before tweeting again just before 7am that the lanes had reopened.

Motorists had faced delays on the M25 earlier this week following a collision.

The incident saw a car spin and stop on the hard shoulder and lane one of the anti-clockwise carriageway just before Junction 15 with the M4, leading to congestion up to junction 17 A412 at Maple Cross.

It happened on Tuesday (September 12) morning.

And there was further delays on the M4 on Wednesday (September 13) when a car burst into flames on a sip road in Uxbridge .
