A rush-hour crash on the M4 has caused major delays for commuters after one lane and a slip road were closed heading out of London.

The three vehicle crash happened on the M4 Westbound at J7 A4 ( Slough West).

Congestion was backed up on the M4 to J5 A4 (Langley).

The slip road from the spur onto main M4 is closed and lane one of three is closed on the main carriageway.

Drivers coming down the Hunterscombe Spur have to join the London-bound M4.

Some tweets are suggesting the whole M4 is shut, but cameras show it is passable.

A second crash at Junction 13 and 14 near Newbury has caused the road to be closed westbound.

Maciej Zatonski posted this video on Twitter of emergency services on the scene with a tent covering part of the area.

Ambulances, fire engines and police can been seen working in the area as the slip road is closed off to traffic following the crash.

Closure

The slip road is likely to stay closed for several hours, Thames Valley Police has said.

An investigation is under way and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police on 101.

M4 at Cheively now fully reopen after serious crash

For drivers heading a bit further out of west London the M4 has now fully reopened between Junction 13 and 14 westbound to Cheively.

Delays are easing and the road should soon be clear, according to the Highways Agency.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash involving two HGVs in the early hours of the morning.

Reopening of slip road delayed

Highways Agency have said the slip road at Junction 7 westbound will now not open until around 5pm after the earlier three vehicle collision.

All lanes of the slip road are closed and normal conditions are not expected until 4.45pm and 5pm.

The westbound carriageway is now looking completely clear.

Slip road to remain closed until at least 3pm

The Junction 7 slip road westbound is expected to remain closed until at least 3.15pm, according to the Highways Agency.

Normal traffic conditions are expected between 3.15pm and 3.30pm as all lanes on the slip road are currently closed.

Only 10 minute delays on the M4 carriageway

According to the Highways Agency there are only 10 minutes on delays on the eastbound carriageway.

Normal traffic conditions are expected between 11.30am and 11.45am after residual congestion caused by the earlier crash.

The slip road is expected to take significantly longer to reopen and return to normal however.

M4 is showing a slightly improving picture according to Google Maps.

It looks like there are still delays between Maidenhead and Slough but the rest of the M4 is looking clear.

The slip road for Junction 7 westbound is reportedly still closed however.

Serious crash near Newbury

Thames Valley Police have launched a witness appeal after two HGVs were involved in a collision in the early hours of Wednesday morning (December 8).

A statement from the force said: “Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision. on the M4 in Berkshire

At around 2.38am this morning (8/12) two HGVs have collided.

“The collision occurred on the M4 westbound between Junction 13 (A34/Chievely) and Junction 14 (Hungerford).

“One of the drivers has sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

“No arrests have been made at this stage.”

Investigating Officer, Sgt Tony Griffiths of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the M4 in either direction this morning between the times of 2.30am and 3am near to Junction 13 and 14 of the M4 Westbound to come forward as they may have information to help us with our investigation.

“We would ask anyone who has witnessed the collision, or who may have seen anything prior to or immediately after the collision to contact us via 101 quoting the reference 99 08/12/16.”

According to Google Maps, the M4 remains closed between J13 and J14 westbound.

Traffic heading in the wrong direction

Traffic is reportedly being forced in the wrong direction because of the slip road closure.

Drivers wishing to head westbound and finding themselves redirected to the eastbound carriageway of the M4.

The slip road is still closed so its probably best to avoid joining the M4 at Junction 7

Bus company First Berkshire said there are delays of around 20 minutes caused by the earlier crash.
