A car went up in flames on the busy M4 between Brentford and Hayes on Tuesday morning (October 31).

An image of the charred vehicle captured by Highways England can be seen on the hard shoulder following the incident at around 6am.

Firefighters were called at 6.10am to reports of a car alight.

The London Fire Brigade said the fire must have been visible as 49 calls were received in relation to the incident.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene.

The incident led to the closure of all three lanes westbound between junctions 2 and 3.

Motorists were caught up in traffic with queues beyond Chiswick Flyover, according to Transport for London (TfL).

The Brigade said the incident was over by 7.07am.

All lanes re-opened just before 7.30am with delays in the area.
