One person was taken to hospital for injuries after a serious collision on the M4 on Sunday (august 20), police have confirmed.

Thames Valley Police said it was called to reports of a single vehicle collision on the M4 Westbound between junctions 7 (Slough) and 9 (Maidenhead).

The M4 was closed in both directions while emergency services attended the scene.

One lane remained closed for several hours while the car was recovered.

A statement from Thames Valley Police said: "We were called at 2.18pm yesterday afternoon (August 20) to reports of a single vehicle collision on the M4 westbound between junctions 7-8/9.

"Fire service, ambulance and air ambulance also in attendance. Road closures were in place whilst emergency services attended the scene.

"The occupant of the car was taken to hospital."

Highways England said all lanes had reopened by around 4.45pm.
