A van which caught fire on the M25 forced the clockwise carriageway of the orbital motorway to be closed temporarily.

Fire crews from Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross attended the blaze on the motorway between junction 16 (M40) and junction 17(A413 Maple Cross).

The delays extend to Junction 15 near Heathrow

The fire, near Beaconsfield, was reported at 9.34am on Wednesday (November 1) and forced police to temporarily close all four lanes.

Once the engines arrived, police reopened two lanes and then a third lane while firefighters battled the van fire in the hard shoulder.

The lane closures lead to severe congestion as queues went beyond junction 15, to junction 14 for Heathrow Airport.

The road was reopened fully at around 11.45am after all lanes were cleared.
