It is National Air Ambulance week (September 11 to September 18) and London's Air Ambulance has launched an exciting campaign video to promote the little known fact that it's a charity.
The charity delivers a 24/7 advanced trauma team that treats on average five critically injured people in London each day and up to 2,000 critically injured London patients every year.
The video takes viewers inside a helicopter ambulance as it prepares to attend an emergency call out.
It gives a breakdown of equipment costs and highlights just how much London's dedicated air ambulances rely on donations to keep-running.
A busy night for emergency services...
London’s Air Ambulance CEO Jonathan Jenkins said: "We want more people to know that London’s Air Ambulance is a charity and relies on donations to deliver its life-saving work.
"By showing the cost of individual aspects of the service, we are hoping that more people will understand how much money is needed to keep the service running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“In the charity’s 28 years it has been blessed with incredible support from individuals, small businesses and large corporations.
"This support has got us to where we are today and we want to thank everyone who has backed us in the past, or who continues to do so today.
“Our hope is that in this National Air Ambulance Week people will share the video to help us raise awareness of the fact that all air ambulances in the UK are charities.”
London's Air Ambulance needs to raise nearly £8 million each year to deliver its 24/7 advanced trauma team that performs emergency medical interventions at the roadside, normally only carried out in hospitals.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said:“London’s Air Ambulance delivers a vital service for those who have been critically injured in the capital, but it relies on donations to provide its life-saving assistance.
"From helicopters to medical equipment, the public’s generosity means this charity has been able to give emergency care to Londoners for 28 years.
"I urge Londoners to get involved in National Air Ambulance Week and support the crews and staff who do such fantastic work.”
During National Air Ambulance Week London’s Air Ambulance will be taking part in fundraising events to raise money and awareness of the charity, including station collections across London’s tube and rail network.
