Tens of thousands of people partied on the streets of Westminster for the 45th Pride parade through the streets .

Pride in London saw a record number of LGBT+ people march through the heart of London, down Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Pall Mall and eventually ending the parade on Whitehall near Trafalgar Square.

The party is expected to continue throughout Saturday (July 8) as Londoners from all walks of live join the community in celebrating the end of a fortnight of Pride events in the capital.

This year's festival also marked half a century since the landmark Sexual Offences Act 1967 which decriminalised homosexuality in England and Wales.

The strikingly diverse parade began with political placards, denouncing the treatment of migrants and refugees as well as placards against Theresa May.

This was followed by a wave of international flags, showing the international significance of the march. One sign read "Istanbul Pride has been cancelled for 3 years".

Standing at any given point, flotillas and troops and vehicles of all descriptions swept through the streets for two and half hours, with loud music enhancing the party atmosphere.

Juan, a 32-year-old from Seville, Spain, told getwestlondon he had travelled to London for his first ever Pride after recently revealing his sexuality to his friends and family.

"For my first ever Pride I had to come to London" he said.

"I'm amazed by the different colours and creeds, not just in the parade but in the crowd also.

"There's even all the ages from the oldest to tiny babies."

Mae from Japan said she had been to Pride events in London before but that this year's effort topped the previous years.

"Every time I come it gets bigger and better" she said.

"This is such a crazy atmosphere, you have all these people who don't know each other just partying in the sunlight while these people express what is in their hearts."

Highlights of the parade included a large Armed Forces contingent and NHS workers charities working with the LGBT+ community on issues like Aids and HIV, all of which drew the loudest cheers from the crowd.
