Westminster has one of the lowest first time pass rate for learner drivers in London according to recent statistics.

Office for National Statistics figures, analysed by click4reg.co.uk, show that Westminster, along with four other London boroughs, has a first time driving test pass rate of 28%, compared with a national average of 47.5%.

Camden, Haringey and Islington join Westminster at the bottom if the pile.

In fact, London in general falls short of the national average, with a 39.4% chance of learner drivers passing their driving test first time around.

Ben Leonard from click4reg.co.uk says this lower percentage first time pass rate for London is not surprising.

He said: “Data highlights that it is more difficult to pass when learning in a city.

"This is not surprising, considering the high levels of congestion, the number of vehicles on the road, and increased traffic measures put in place in London.

"Those learning to drive in central London are faced with large roundabouts and speed restrictions, resulting in a high volume of traffic and impatient drivers."

In west London however, most boroughs do fare well, with Kensington and Chelsea falling just shy of the national average in England, with 47.4% and Harrow with 46.30%.

And as the table below shows, all boroughs, apart from Westminster, exceed the average London first time pass rate percentage of 39.4%.

The only two London boroughs to exceed the national average of a 47.5% first time pass rate are Kingston-Upon-Thames with 51% and Bromley with 50.10%.
