A student who made a home-made bomb, a brothel owner who ran a sex empire and a Willesden man who tried to fly to Syria to fight for ISIS are among some of the faces who were jailed in London in May.

Student jailed for 15 years for planting home-made bomb on underground train

Former alter boy Damon Smith was jailed for 15 years in May for planting a home-made bomb on a busy Tube train.

The weapons-obsessed 20-year-old built the device at home with a £2 clock from Tesco after finding an online Al-Qaeda article entitled "Make A Bomb In The Kitchen Of Your Mom".

He claimed it was a Halloween prank but was found guilty of possession of an explosive substance with intent following a trial at the Old Bailey .

The autistic defendant smiled in the dock as Judge Richard Marks QC sentenced him.

Carer jailed after blowing more than £45,000 of elderly man's savings in five-month spending spree

Abile Mohammed Bah, 49, plundered more than £45,000 of his 88-year-old patient's cash in a five month spending spree - so he could kit himself out in clothes and designer watches.

The former carer, of Knights Hill, West Norwood, was employed by an independent care provider and was a home carer for the elderly victim.

His victim lived in west Ealing and needed assistance with tasks such as washing, cooking meals, laundry, shopping and getting around.

He was sentenced to three-and-a-half years imprisonment on Wednesday, May 31.

Thomas Biggs, 22, of Wraysbury Drive, West Drayton, was jailed for 15 years after sexually assaulting women who were walking alone.

He had previously pleaded guilty on February 27 to assault by penetration, sexual assault of a female, attempted sexual assault of a female, two counts of attempted kidnap and two counts of robbery.

Victims were groped and thrown on the ground, where they were sexually assaulted in a "degrading and terrifying" way.

David Archer trafficked girls into the UK

David Archer, 53, of Northumberland Avenue, Wanstead, was sentenced to 13 years behind bars after running a sex empire which yielded £1.6m a year.

He trafficked women and controlled their profiles on adult websites while running four brothels.

Archer had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to control prostitution for gain, possession of an identity document with improper intention, concealing criminal property, and two counts of human trafficking.

He was then found guilty on March 27 of three counts of sexual assault following a four-week trial.

Spanish-national Jorge Gil Jawhar, 24, has been sentenced to a total of 14 years imrpisonment after he raped two transgender sex workers.

Jorge Gil Jawhar, 25, of Merrington Road, Hammersmith, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.

It came after he raped two transgender sex workers, and could have committed further assaults according to Metropolitan police.

He had pleaded guilty to two charges of rape, one attempted rape and one charge of theft.

Criminal network jailed for a combined total of more than 40 years for catalogue of crimes

Six members of an organised criminal network who supplied drugs across the south-east have been jailed for more than 40 years.

The men from Surrey and London were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on Friday (May 26), having previously pleaded guilty to numerous offences.

The offences included supplying Class A drugs, firearms offences, and committing armed robberies.

Detectives caught up with the men after launching "Operation Ruda" in May 2015 to tackle the organised crime network - headed by Michael O'Driscoll.

O'Driscoll, 58, of Claremount Avenue, New Malden was sentenced to 16 years in jail.

He pleaded guilty to encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence (a 9mm automatic handgun), offering to supply Class A drugs (ecstasy tablets) to another, encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence, conspiracy to handle stolen goods, attempting to handle stolen goods and transferring criminal property, namely £35,000.

David Lee Simmons, 38, of Garratt Lane, Earlsfield was sentenced to two years and eight months' for manufacturing a prohibited weapon - a stun gun - conspiracy to handle stolen goods and attempting to handle stolen goods.

His father, David Terry Simmons, 62, of Portsmouth Road, Thursley, was jailed for four years for conspiracy to handle stolen goods, attempting to handle stolen goods and transferring criminal property.

Karl Couling, 36, of Leigh Place, Feltham, was jailed for six years for selling/transferring a prohibited weapon and ammunition, namely a 9mm pistol.

Kevin Edwards-Prithcard, 32, of Wingate Crescent, Croydon was sentenced to three years and eight months for encouraging or assisting in the commission of an offence, which involved planning an armed warehouse robbery.

Robert D'Acosta, 55, of Beltona Gardens, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was jailed for eight years for supplying a Class B drug (ketamine), possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine), Class B drugs (ketamine) and Class B drugs (cannabis) and possession of criminal property, namely £45,000 cash.

Zaher is back behind bars for harassing his victim by calling her from prison

Taleb Zaher, 21, of Westbourne Park Road, near Notting Hill, was jailed for 12 months after he admitted making intimidating phone calls using a prison phone.

He called the victim 35 times after he was previously jailed for two counts of actual bodily harm, battery, harassment, criminal damage, theft and breach of a probation order.

This time, he pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, witness intimidation and breaching a restraining order.

Wembley teenager jailed for dangerous driving which led to death of passenger

Mohammed Nabil, 19, of Wyld Way, Wembley, was jailed for five years for dangerous driving which resulted in the death of one of his passengers.

The teenager, who pleaded guilty to numerous offences, was driving his brother's car without permission when he lost control on a wet road on May 31, 2015.

His car collided with a number of parked cars and one of his rear passengers, Zohaib Anwar, died at the scene.

Peter Baker, 68, of Clare Road, Hounslow, was jailed for five years after he was convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child.

Baker was added to the sex offenders' register for life and was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

On the first count, Baker was sentenced with a co-defendant, Michael Slark, 69, of Cavendish Road, Sunbury, Surrey.

A Brentford pensioner has been jailed after he "abused his position of trust" and sexually assaulted elderly and vulnerable women he delivered medication to.

John Muttitt, of Walnut Tree Road, Brentford was sentenced to 18 months in jail at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday (May 26) for two counts of sexual assault.

The counts relate to two separate assaults on elderly women in 2013 and 2015.

Both of the victims suffer with mobility issues.

The 78-year-old was found guilty of the offences on Tuesday April 11 at the same court.

Jail for Willesden man who tried to fly to Syria to fight with ISIS

A Brent man is behind bars after trying to fly to Syria to fight alongside Isis.

Patrick Kabele, 33, of High Road, Willesden , was caught attempting to board a flight to Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul, in order to join the terror group.

He was found with £3,000 cash and media devices containing notes that he would join the so-called Islamic State after he was stopped under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act at Gatwick Airport on August 20 2016.

Kabele was sentenced on Tuesday (May 23) to six years imprisonment and ordered to serve a further four years on license when he is released.

Handbag snatcher behind bars

David Rodriguez was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison

A man who stole a handbag with around £300 cash in it has been sent to prison.

David Rodriguez struck at The Gridle Diner in West Drayton on April 26.

The money in the handbag was never recovered and Rodriguez was told he would have to pay his victim compensation when he appeared in court.

A teenager from Harrow has been jailed after officers found a knife in his possession during a stop and search.

Duval Evans, 19, from Eastcote Lane, South Harrow, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug, possession of an offensive weapon and assault of a police officer on Tuesday April 11.

Officers, who were wearing body worn cameras , stopped Evans near Austen Road in Harrow.

19-year-old Duval Evans has been sentenced to 46 weeks in prison

During the search, an officer found a weapon in Evans' jacket pocket.

After trying to flee with the knife in hand, leading to a struggle, Evans was arrested.

The teenager pleaded guilty at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (May 17) and was sentenced to 46 weeks' imprisonment.

Sex traffickers tricked young girls into prostitution

A trio have been have been jailed after trafficking women and young girls into prostitution in the UK.

Romelia Radu, 32, Petre Niculescu, 39, and George Maracineanu, 47, deceived women into moving to the UK with the promise of work, before forcing them into prostitution in the Paddington area with threats and blackmail.

One victim, who was just 14 at the time and came from a poor family, was forced to have sex with up to 15 men a night by Niculescu and Radu with threats of violence to her and her family in Romania.

All three were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on Friday May 12 after pleading guilty to trafficking and prostitution offences at an earlier hearing on March 16.

Hounslow man jailed for conspiracy to sell lethal firearms

A Hounslow man has been jailed for 18 years for his part in a conspiracy to sell lethal firearms after police raids recovered TWELVE guns waiting to be sold.

Mindaugas Vasuaskas, 26, of Brookwood Road, was one of four men sentenced to a combined total of 62 years in jail after they were convicted of a conspiracy to transfer 12 guns.

The men were arrested after officers from Met Police's Trident and Area Crime Command executed a warrant at an address in Ferrier Point, Canning Town, on May 21 last year.

Police found 11 Makarov-type self-loading pistols with silencers, and a Russian AKS-74U assault rifle, as well as 107 handgun cartridges and 30 rifle cartridges.

Blade-carrying thief jailed

A blade-carrying car thief caught red-handed with cash stolen from a vehicle in Hounslow has been sent to jail.

Damien Davison was convicted of theft from a motor vehicle and possession of a bladed article at West London Magistrates' Court last week.

The 25-year-old was sentenced at the same court , on the same day, to six months in prison on May 1.

The theft took place at Park Road in Hounslow in the early hours of April 29.
