A bin man has died after police were called to a lorry crash involving a pedestrian in Northolt.

Emergency services rushed to Priors Field at 7.30am on Tuesday (December 4) following reports of a serous collision.

Metropolitan Police officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended and found there had been a collision involving a bin lorry and a man.

"The male [no further details] was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokesman for the Met said.

"The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries."

No arrests have been made at this stage and temporary road closures are in effect.

Pictures taken at the scene show a police cordon which has been erected, with the bin lorry still in the road.

Emergency services were called to Priors Field at 7.30am on Tuesday morning (December 4) following reports of a “serious incident” involving the lorry.

On arrival, paramedics and police officers found the Amey employee, who was part of the crew collecting rubbish in the area, injured. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Before now the tragedy has only been described as a “serious incident”, but the Metropolitan Police have confirmed the man, who was in his 50s, was struck by the lorry.

Bin man 'struck by refuse lorry'

Police have now revealed the bin man who died was hit by the refuse lorry.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said:

Police were called to Priors Field, Northolt at 07.27am on Tuesday, December 4 following reports of a collision.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a refuse lorry had been in collision with one of the lorry crew.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed.

Formal identification is yet to take place and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

No arrests have been made. Temporary road closures are in effect.

A bin man has died while working in Northolt, it has been confirmed.

The Amey employee was part of the crew collecting rubbish in Priors Field on Tuesday morning (December 4) when a “serious incident” occurred.

Emergency services were called at 7.30am to reports of a bin lorry involved in a crash with a person and despite efforts from paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amey, the company contracted by Ealing Council to carry out environmental and waste services, says it is working with the Metropolitan Police to establish how the man came to die.

'I saw blue lights flashing'

Rigni, who chose not to give her last name, lives on Priors Field and was woken by a policewoman earlier this morning following the incident.

She said: “We were all asleep at the time when a policewoman rang my doorbell and I saw blue lights flashing. The policewoman asked if I saw anything as there was an accident here but I was asleep the whole time.

“There was an ambulance, police and a fire engine here too.”

Bin man confirmed dead

The man who died in Northolt this morning was a bin man, it has been confirmed by Amey, the company contracted to Ealing Council for their waste services.

James Haluch, managing director of Amey Highways, said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that one of our employees has died this morning. We are unable to provide further details about this incident at present.

“However, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with their family, friends and colleagues affected. We are working with the police to establish how this tragic event has taken place.

“We have ceased collections for the rest of today to support our employees following this news.”

'Bin man dies in serious incident'

A bin man has reportedly died in this morning’s incident.

Ealing Council have confirmed a member of their staff has tragically passed away. It is believed at this early stage that the person who died was a male employee at Amey, the company contracted to the council for their waste services.

A spokeswoman for Ealing Council said: “There has been a serious incident which has resulted in the death of a member of staff. The council extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.

“Collection crews are being informed and sent home. Services that are impacted will be resumed Saturday and we ask for patience from residents affected during this difficult time.”

'Sadly the patient died at the scene'

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) have revealed how they responded to this morning’s crash.

A spokeswoman for LAS said:

We were called at 7.24am (4 December) to reports of a road traffic collision in Priors Field, in Northolt.

We sent two ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car – consisting of a paramedic and a doctor - from London’s Air Ambulance.

Sadly the patient died at the scene.
