A series of films focusing on Hammersmith community and its voluntary sector will be shown at a special event later this month.

The Hammersmith Film Festival takes place on September 22 at the new Lyric cinema and will feature a total of 25 films ranging from two to 20 minutes in length.

All the films have been made by local organisations or are about the work they do, and provide an insight into the issues faced by local people and the commitment and tenacity shown by them and by volunteers and professionals working with them to overcome these issues.

There is also a celebratory theme to the films, which see Hammersmith residents enjoying sport, theatre, conversation and the company of friends and neighbours.

The Festival has been put together by Hammersmith United Charities (HUC), which has been serving the eight wards of Hammersmith and Fulham for nearly 400 years.

Speaking at the launch of the festival, Melanie Nock, head of community partnerships at HUC said; “We are very excited by this festival. Groups we fund often send us short films about their work and I have long thought they deserved a wider audience.

“In bringing them together like this, for local people to enjoy in the great setting of the Lyric’s new cinema, we are able to show a local audience just how vibrant this area is. Putting together the programme has been moving and exhilarating. We are enormously looking forward to seeing this work on the big screen.”

The festival runs from 4-7pm. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance by emailing nora.laraki@hamunitedcharities.com
