A chilling audio tape from Milly Dowler's killer behind bars has been released after a fellow inmate claimed he'd confessed to two notorious murders.

Levi Bellfield, now known as Yusuf Rahim, has been accused of being responsible for the murders of Lin and Megan Russell in Kent back in 1996.

The accusations come from convicted murderer Michael Stone, who is serving a life sentence for bludgeoning Dr Lin Russell and her six year old daughter, Megan, to death but now claims he has "new evidence" that Bellfield, a former West Drayton bouncer, committed these crimes.

Lawyers on Stone's behalf claim they have a "very detailed confession" to the killings from serial killer Bellfield.

But in audio recording from behind bars, released on Wednesday (November 29), the Milly Dowler killer defended himself and stated the accusations were made by a "compulsive liar" and "fantasist".

He claims Richard Baker, a fellow inmate and serial rapist, has given evidence to Stone's lawyers, claiming Bellfield confessed to the crime in prison, something the serial killer branded as "vile and untrue".

He said: "It appears Mr Baker has made an allegation of a so-called cell confession.

"In my view such vile, untrue allegations don't warrant a response. They are what they are - the words of a lonely...rapist who craves the spotlight."

He claims Baker was "obsessed with crime" and took notes from the BBC documentary, the Chillenden Murders before he came forward alleging Bellfield has confessed.

But this afternoon Stone's legal team presented new evidence which they claim points to Bellfield.

Stone has always protested his innocence - and now his solicitor, Paul Bacon has claimed Bellfield admitted the killings in prison.

He told a press conference in London: "We have now received evidence of a full confession by Levi Bellfield to the Russell murders.

"In the confession, Bellfield describes how he came across Lin Russell and her two children, how he attacked them with a hammer and his motivation for the killing.

"The confession is detailed and has a number of facts which are not in the public domain."

It is not the first time Stone's legal representatives have pointed the finger at Bellfield.

Paul Bacon, Stones' solicitor, claimed Bellfield was a better match on the e-fit issued during the police manhunt.

The claims come after a BBC two-part documentary aired in May, which saw a panel of independent experts re-examine the evidence and suggest another suspect.

Stone was told in 2006 he must spend a minimum of 25 years behind bars over the attack on Dr Russell, 45, and her daughters as they walked home from a swimming gala along a country lane.

Lin's other daughter, Josie, nine, suffered severe head injuries in the assault but survived and went on to carve out a new life as an artist, growing up with her father, Dr Shaun Russell, in Wales.
