A teenager who was diagnosed with ADHD just three years ago has celebrated getting into a Russell Group university after turning her life around.
Niama Evans, 18, was labelled a "disruptive" pupil and handed a staggering 78 detentions in one term.
From the age of five Miss Evans was told school would be an uphill battle for her, and for a decade, her mum was forced or fight to get her daughter help.
Aged 15, she was finally given an ADHD diagnosis and was given the support and understanding she desperately needed.
Now, aged 18, Niama has been offered a place at prestigious Leeds University.
She said: "I couldn't believe it. I cried so much over sociology it was so hard.
"I can't tell you what this feels like."
Niama moved to Chiswick School just more than a year ago and was given extra help.
She set her sights on Leeds, and her determination, and unwavering support from her mum and teachers, saw her through.
Mum Jane Bailey said: "Right from primary school they told me my child was always going to struggle.
"I was heartbroken, to think she was going to go through that.
"From her first days at school that's what they said.
"She went undiagnosed for years - until she was 15.
"She had a terrible time at school - and now she has got here."
A level results
Niama's mum told how she begged and pleaded to get a diagnosis for her daughter for years, until eventually her own GP helped her.
The teenager finally got the help she needed and was allowed extra time in exams to combat panic attacks, as well as medication.
"It doesn't matter what you go through, even with a severe mental disability, if you put your mind to it you can do it
"The school accepted she was someone who struggles and they helped her.
"The diagnosis was all she needed.
"I am so proud of her."
Niama hopes to help children with speech and language disabilities after an undergraduate course in childhood studies at Leeds.
After a gruelling battle with her anxiety through exams she came out with 2 As in sociology and photography and a C in psychology.
She said: "I researched the courses and Leeds was the best so that's what I aimed for.
"It was so hard, I can't believe it, I'm so happy."
