Fewer than 50 votes could be separating the Conservatives and Lib Dems in Richmond Park.

At 6.50am, reports were that a third recount is taking place in the constituency, in which Tory Zac Goldsmith is vying to win back the seat he lost to Dr Sarah Olney in December's by-election.

News of the first full recount was announced at around 3.40am on Friday (June 9). Then at around 5.50am it was announced there would be a second recount, with sources suggesting as few as 84 votes were separating the pair.

Shortly before 6am, sources the said less than 50 votes could be separating Dr Olney and her challenger.

Mr Goldsmith resigned from parliament in protest at the government’s decision to build a third runway at Heathrow.

He ran on an independent ticket in the December by-election, but lost by less than 2,000 votes.

Elsewehere in west London, Kensington is still waiting to announce its winner.

Lady Victoria Borwick is defending a majority of 7.361 for the Tories.

Sources had indicated to getwestlondon ahead of election day that the result would be in by 4am, but as the clock ticked past 6.30am on Friday, there was still no announcement at Kensington Town Hall.
