A large fuel spillage has been causing traffic misery in and around Chiswick .

The A4 was closed westbound between Chiswick Roundabout and the Ealing Road junction following the spillage on Tuesday (May 10) at around 3pm.

There were reports at 4.20pm of congestion on the A205 Mortlake Road northbound to Chalker's Corner, the A307 to Kew Green, the A406 southbound to North Ealing Tube station and the A315 Chiswick High Road to Turnham Green.

Transport for London (TfL) said shortly after 4pm that traffic was heavy and slow moving on Chiswick Roundabout and across Kew Bridge.

It also warned drivers of queues on Mortlake Road and Kew Road, and on the A406 southbound, with traffic stretching beyond Ealing Common.

TfL said westbound traffic was also slow moving on Chiswick High Road but delays remained "minimal" on the A4 westbound approaching Chiswick Roundabout.

The spillage follows major delays during rush hour on Tuesday morning after collisions on both the M4 and A40.
