A shop that had thousands of pounds worth of alcohol seized for non-payment of duty has lost its licence to sell booze.
West 9 Food and Wine, in Ladbroke Grove, decided at Westminster Magistrates' Court not to challenge a decision, taken on October 30, by the Kensington & Chelsea licensing committee to remove its licence.
Last year’s decision was made after council, HM Customs and Revenue and police seized illegally held alcohol.
Further investigation found the shop had been consistently selling high-strength alcohol products to street drinkers, leading to antisocial behaviour in the Portobello area.
The business’s decision to not pursue the matter was taken on April 14.
A council spokesman said: “We regularly carry out these types of joint operations with colleagues from HM Customs and Revenue and the police. If we find licensed premises with illegal alcohol or selling high strength alcohol drinks to street drinkers we will take action to stop it.”
