A 47-year old male pedestrian was taken to hospital after he had liquid thrown in his face by men on a moped in Knightsbridge .

Metropolitan Police attended Walton Place near to the world famous Harrods at 8.33pm on Monday July 31.

The victim was treated by the London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital with injures "not thought to be life threatening."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "It is not known if the liquid thrown was a corrosive substance.

"Officers from Kensington & Chelsea Borough are investigating, and at this early stage it is believed the liquid was thrown at the victim during an attempted robbery."

No arrests have been made as police enquires continue.

The attack follows a spate of acid attacks across the capital and wider a field.

The Metropolitan Police has recorded 833 crimes where "noxious or corrosive liquids" were used or where the suspect caused explosions or threw corrosive fluids with intent to harm.

Some 72 of these were in west London .
