The Duchess of Cambridge's uncle was due to appear in court on Tuesday (October 31) after being accused of attacking his wife outside their Marylebone home.

Gary Goldsmith, who attended the weddings of both Kate and Pippa, is said to have assaulted Julie-Ann Goldsmith in Wimpole Street at around 1.20am on October 13.

The 52-year-old, who was brought up in Southall with his sister, was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with assault by beating.

However, the Marylebone resident asked to be cautioned over the alleged assault of his wife and requested a two-week adjournment.

Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said on Tuesday (October 31): "There was a request from the defence that came into the court for a two-week adjournment so that a caution could be looked at.”

In response, prosecutor Katie Bryan said: “We have considered caution, and we are proceeding to charge and bring this matter before the court.”

The judge explained that Goldsmith had not attended the hearing because he had been told by his lawyers that he was not required.

Kate Middleton's uncle, the younger brother of Carole Middleton, is due to next appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on November 14.
