Late night party goers and workers will be able to travel from their homes in Harrow and Brent to central London all night long after the Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced a 24-hour tube service.

The Jubilee line – which serves Kilburn, Willesden Green, Dollis Hill, Neasden, Wembley Park, Kingsbury, Queensbury, Canons Park and Stanmore – is one of five lines that will be open 24-hour on Fridays and Saturdays from 2015, alongside the Victoria, Piccadilly, Northern and Central lines.

Bob Blackman, Conservative MP for Harrow East, has warmly welcomed Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s plans.

Harrow East is the home of the Jubilee line terminus of Stanmore, so this will be extremely beneficial to our readers.

Mr Blackman said: “I fully agree with what Mayor Boris Johnson is proposing to upgrade and improve the tube network for the modern age. The Jubilee line is an arterial one across London and many of my constituents rely on it, so I am very pleased it has been included in the lines set to be opened all night at the weekends.

“I also look forward, as I’m sure many of constituents do, to seeing an end to closures of the line during the weekends as well.”

Mr Johnson has pledged the move will boost jobs and the night-time economy.

He said: “It is time to take the Tube to the next level and so for the first time in London’s history, we will provide a regular 24-hour Night Tube service at weekends. This will not just boost jobs and our vibrant night-time economy, it will further cement London’s reputation as the best big city on the planet to in which to live, work, visit and invest.”

Transport for London have said more frequent trains will be introduced across a wide range of lines, including a 20 per cent increase in capacity on the Northern line next year and further uplifts to the frequency of Jubilee and Victoria line services, to 33 and 36 trains per hour respectively at the busiest times.

Managing director of London Underground, Mike Brown MVO said: “We will continue to make the Tube more accessible and provide assistance at stations for all our customers who need it.”
