April saw a number of people jailed for crimes including murder, rape and a terrorist plot.

Mum-of-two jailed for murdering teenager in row over stolen pasta

Maxine Benson was jailed for stabbing 18-year-old Alfie Stone to death in Ickenham in a row over a portion of stolen pasta shells.

The mum-of-two was found guilty of murder and at the Old Bailey on April 27 was given a life sentence, with a minimum jail term of 23-and-a-half years.

The 32-year-old, of no fixed abode, told the court "I deserve to be dead" as she was sentenced for the murder, which happened in Ickenham High Street, near West Ruislip station, on November 9 last year.

Terrorist plot to gun down soldiers, police and citizens

Tarik Hassane and Suhaib Majeed are guilty of plotting terrorist murders

Two men from west London were jailed for hatching a terrorist plot to gun down members of the police, military or public in drive-by shootings.

Tarik Hassane, of Dalgarno Way, Ladbroke Grove, and Suhaib Majeed, of Church Street Estate, Marylebone , each received life sentences for conspiring to commit a terrorist murder and were told they must spend a minimum of 21 and 20 years behind bars respectively.

The court heard how the pair had pledged an oath of allegiance to so-called Islamic State and had already purchased a handgun, silencer and ammunition before Hassane was arrested in October 2014.

Two other men, Nyall Hamlett, of Great Western Road, Paddington , and Nathan Cuffy, of Dartmouth Close, Notting Hill , were also jailed for six-and-a-half years and 11 years respectively after admitting firearms offences.

Burglary gang who committed 30 crimes in less than three months

Members of a gang responsible for 30 burglaries in and around Ruislip were jailed for a total of 36 years .

John Flynn, John James Feehan-Flynn, James Connors, Johnnie Liam Flynn and and Timmy Connors, were all convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary.

They were between them sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on April 15 to 35 years and seven months behind bars.

Gracie McCarthy and Maisie Neumann previously admitted the acquisition, use and possession of stolen property, and Neumann received a nine-month suspended prison sentence.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of John Flynn and Gracie McCarthy after they failed to appear for sentencing.

The court heard how the gang had carried out 30 burglaries at homes in and around Ruislip during 2014, between September 29 and December 15.

Mother who killed baby and dumped body in bin is detained

Federica Boscolo-Gnolo admitted killing her child, two-month-old Farah

A mother was detained indefinitely after she admitted killing her baby and dumping the body in a bin.

Federica Boscolo-Gnolo is believed to have smothered her two-month-old daughter Farah at a hotel in Earl's Court on January 25 before placing her body in a bin in Russell Square.

The 32-year-old, who the court heard voices telling her to save the child from a life of suffering, admitted manslaughter and was sentenced at the Old Bailey on April 13.

The Italian national, of no fixed abode, was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

Credit card fraudsters who netted over £150,000

A gang of fraudsters were sentenced for a credit card scam which netted over £150,000.

The crooks targeted retailers by using stolen credit card numbers to order thousands of pounds worth of goods over the phone.

Wayne Eldridge 42, of Greenhill Park, Harlesden ; Jermaine Morrison, 36, of Princess Road, Kilburn; Lilanan Siton, 36, of Mortimer Crescent, Kilburn; and Chris Barclay, 28, of no fixed abode, were all convicted of fraud-related offences.

Barclay was jailed for eight months, Morrison and Eldridge received suspended sentences and Siton was given a conditional discharge.

Man raped and sexually assaulted teenage girl he groomed online

Convicted rapist Peter Christopher Reynolds met his 15-year-old victim via social media

Peter Christopher Reynolds was jailed for 10 years for raping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he had groomed online.

The 50-year-old, of Banstead Court, in Westway, met his victim via social media and groomed her online for a month before persuading her to meet him in June 2014.

His crimes only came to light later that year after the girl suffered serious mental health problems and was hospitalised as a result of the assault.

Reynolds was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on April 1, where he was also given five years behind bars for four counts of making and distributing indecent images, and four years for grooming online, with those jail terms to run concurrently.

Prolific shoplifter targeted designer handbags, purses and jewellery

Austin Caballero, who was jailed for shoplifting

Austin Caballero helped himself to designer goods worth £35,000 between February 2014 and June last year, police said.

The 42-year-old, of no fixed abode, targeted high end shops in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea , Westminster and Camden.

The one-man crime wave was charged with 43 counts of theft and two counts of dishonestly obtaining services.

He admitted all but five charges of theft and was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on April 1 to 45 months' imprisonment.
