A pensioner has died following a collision in Hounslow in which the driver of another vehicle fled the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers believe the 73-year-old male driver who died, collided with an oncoming light coloured vehicle, possibly a silver VW Golf, before coming to a stop in a hedge in Isleworth .

The crash took place on Saturday (January 7) around 6.40pm and emergency services rushed the man to hospital where he died the following day.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the collision in Worton Road at the junction with Farnell Road in Isleworth.

They also wish to speak to the driver of the VW Golf who briefly stopped at the scene before driving off.

Police were called by the ambulance service to the scene of the crash on Worton Road, Isleworth, on Saturday (Jan 7, 2017)

A spokesman for the police said: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at approximately 6.40pm on Saturday 7 January to reports of a motorist taken unwell in Worton Road at the junction with Farnell Road in Isleworth.

"At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that the motorist collided with an oncoming light coloured, possibly silver, VW Golf before coming to a stop in a hedge.

"The driver of the VW Golf briefly stopped at the scene before driving away.

"Detectives would like to speak with this driver, or anyone else who witnessed the collision"

Detective Sergeant Andy Russell from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command said: "I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.

"We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the VW Golf to help assist us with our investigation."

Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem will be held in due course.
