An Ickenham football club that has grown to 350 players celebrated its massive success with an award ceremony on Saturday (July 2).

There were 24 teams from Ickenham Youth Football Club that were recognised for their efforts over the last year including the recently formed girls team.

The event was held a the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre Athletics Stadium in Gatting Way, Uxbridge .

Trophies for the U16s team

Team committee member Heidi Sherwood, said: “To manage a club of such an evolving size is a huge undertaking and relies on a team of volunteers including managers and coaches.

“All freely give their time and the teams would not be able to function without the commitment they show, so the club would like to use this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work.”

Particular mention was given to U16s manager Dave Gentry who stepped in and saved the team which it dwindled to just four players.

Thanks to Mr Gentry's efforts the team now has a full roster of players and are looking forward to the coming season.

A new girl's side has also been formed at the club, training at Glebe Primary School in Glebe Avenue and managed by Annie Hewitt.

The team are also offering sponsorship deals to local businesses for the 2016/17 season.
