It wouldn't be a typical British summer without some rain and Hurricane Gert is likely to guarantee that.

The effects of the hurricane are to make an appearance in England on Friday afternoon (August 18) as it crosses the Atlantic from Canada.

Hurricane Gert, which is a category one storm at the moment , will become a "typical depression" by the time the cool water has moved across to western Europe.

London may just avoid the hurricane's force, according to the weather forecast, but for those who have fled the capital for holiday, be warned.
