Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of victims’ rights campaigner Jill Saward , who was the first rape victim to waive her anonymity after being raped at her father's vicarage in Ealing .

The 51-year-old, who was attacked at the vicarage in 1986, died earlier this month after suffering a stroke, reports Mirror Online .

Brave Jill became the first rape victim to waive her right to anonymity four years later.

She went on to campaign on behalf of victims of sexual violence and helped train judges and police officers.

More than 300 people - many wearing purple to represent victims of sexual violence - attended her funeral at Lichfield Cathedral.

The service to remember Jill, who was born in Liverpool, finished with the anthem "You’ll Never Walk Alone".

Paying tribute to his wife, her husband Gavin Drake said her death had hit him and their three sons hard.

He said: "The pain of losing Jill has been hard. And is hard. Not just for me, but for my three lads.

"Myles, Rory and Fergus have shown incredible courage and strength - on the outside at least."

Jill was 21 when she was attacked at her family’s vicarage home in Ealing in 1986.

Her case was notorious for the comments of trial judge Mr Justice Leonard, who said the trauma suffered by Jill "had not been so great".

Gang leader, Robert Horscroft, who did not take part in the rape, was jailed for 14 years.

One of the rapists, Martin McCall, was sentenced to five years for the sex crime.

The second rapist, Christopher Byrne, was jailed for three years for rape and five years for burglary and assault.
