A huge cycle parking hub is being built at Hounslow West tube station.

Work is underway to create 190 parking spaces for bikes at the Piccadilly line station in Bath Road, Hounslow , which are due to be ready by the end of March.

The mayor of London has made a commitment to provide 80,000 new cycle parking spaces by the end of the year, and there are also plans for a 'Dutch-style' 5,000-space super-hub at Waterloo in 2018.

The hub at Hounslow West will include lighting and CCTV, as well as bike maintenance tools enabling riders to make basic repairs.

Leon Daniels, Transport for London 's managing director for surface transport, said: "We know that people who want to cycle at least part of their journey need to be given the peace of mind that they can leave their bike somewhere that is safe and secure.

"These new facilities will put us on a par with our continental neighbours, giving people the confidence to take their bike out more often."

You can help identify where parking spaces are most needed on the Urban Cycle Parking website .

The website, set up by TfL in conjunction with the London Cycling Campaign, also shows where existing cycle parking is available in the capital.
