If you're planning to get around London on Christmas Day it's important to remember there's no public transport.

Services on the London Underground, buses, National Rail, TfL Rail, London Overground, DLR, Trams, Rivers or Emirates Air Line will not be running throughout the day on Monday December 25.

With travel options limited here's how to best navigate the capital on Christmas Day.

Driving

  • The Congestion Charge and T-Charge won't apply on Christmas Day 2018
  • You can find information on expected traffic from roadworks over the Christmas period here.

Scheduled roadworks

  • Woolwich Ferry Closed in both directions to facilitate ferry upgrade works

  • Arthur Street Closed both directions between Martin Lane and King William Street to facilitate Bank Station upgrade work

  • Farringdon Street between Charterhouse Street and Ludgate Circus - Road is fully closed due to a burst water main

  • Farringdon Road between Cowcross Street and Charterhouse Street - Cowcross Street is closed for Crossrail works. Minor restrictions on Farringdon Road both ways

  • Park Crescent (NW1/W1G/W1B) (Southbound) at the junction of [A501] Marylebone Road - Closed due to works by Westminster City Council.

  • Coldharbour Lane (SW2/SW9) (Both Directions) between Brixton Road and Electric Lane - Road is closed for emergency gas works.

  • Victoria Embankment (EC4) (Both Directions) between [A201] Blackfriars Bridge and Horse Guards Avenue - Various carriageway restrictions have been implemented for the Tideway works.

  • Osborn Street (E1) (Northbound) - Road fully closed for UKPN works. The Cycle Super Highway is also closed at this location.

  • St Mary Axe (EC3A) (All Directions) between Bevis Marks and Houndsditch - Various restrictions in place over a number of phases for junction realignment works.

Taxis and Minicabs

There is no public transport in London on Christmas Day

An extra £4 charge will apply if you travel by black on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and until 06:00 on Thursday 27 December.

Some roadworks (see above) may affect journey times.

Santander bikes

Santander bikes will be available to use on Christmas Day.

The Santander Cycles App for Android and iOS smartphones is free to download.

As well as viewing the nearest docking station and bike availability, the App sends a bike release code straight to a user's phone, which means you can hire a Santander cycle without having to use the docking station terminal.

Coaches

A limited number of services will run on Christmas Day. You should check the timetable of your service with your service operator.

Services will operate with amended timetables throughout the Christmas period and are expected to be extremely busy.

Where possible advance booking is strongly recommended.

The ticket office and left luggage at Victoria Station will be closed.
