House prices in Hillingdon rose faster during 2015 than anywhere in the UK except Reading, according to new figures.

The average value of a home in the borough increased by 14.4% to £368,035 during the 12 months to November 2015, Land Registry statistics show - including a monthly rise of 1.5% for November.

Across the UK, Only Reading saw a steeper annual increase, with house prices there rocketing by 16.2% during the year.

Other big movers in west London included Harrow, where prices rose by 11.1%, Hounslow (9.1%), Brent (8.6%) and Ealing (8.3%).

Kensington & Chelsea saw the smallest jump in the capital, with average house prices there up just 0.3% during the year to £1,331,549 - having slumped by 1.4% during November.

In Hammersmith & Fulham, prices were up 0.9% over the year, while Westminster saw an annual increase of 3.5%.

Carl Standen, a sales negotiator at the estate agent Arron James in Hillingdon, said the borough's good schools and council help for first-time buyers had contributed to the local house price boom.

"We think the main reason is that within Hillingdon there are a lot of very schools - both junior and senior," he told getwestlondon.

"There are not a lot of properties on the market here, and I think the council's first-time buyers scheme has helped drive demand."

Hillingdon Council's initiative helped first-time buyers onto the housing ladder by matching their deposit up to 7.5% of the offer.

The council is not currently accepting any further applications for the "very successful" scheme following "huge demand", its website states.

The Land Registry's latest figures for the year to November 2015 were published on December 30.

Last month, getwestlondon published statistics showing a quarter of Londoners are getting married and having children while renting , rather than buying homes.
