Redevelopment of Hounslow Town Primary School is underway following a ground breaking ceremony at the site in Pears Road, on Thursday (June 15).

Work is being carried out on the site to create much needed school spaces in the borough, alongside providing 284 new homes.

The development , which is being put into action by Jerram Falkus Construction, alongside Countryside Partnership and Network Homes, has been made possible as a result of a £6.2million Housing Zone Funding Grant from Greater London Authority.

Leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Steve Curran, was alongside the Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development at City Hall, James Murray, at the ground breaking ceremony.

He said: "This is the second housing development in the borough to offer 50 per cent affordable housing, and we look forward to the provision of much-needed good quality affordable homes, including shared ownership and affordable rent properties.

"With the need for more school places at an all-time high, we are also delighted that this project will also provide a brand new, state of the art, modern primary school that will expand the current school’s services, with a further two classes per year group."

The 2.67 hectare site will boast a brand new five form entry primary school and almost 284 mixed-tenure homes, of which, half will be affordable housing.

Deputy Mayor James Murray said: "It is great to be working with Hounslow and its partners to build a new school alongside nearly 300 new homes, and I am pleased that together the Council and City Hall have been able to make sure half of the homes will be affordable to rent and buy."

The school will continue to operate during the redevelopment, with the new five form entry school being built first.

The new school buildings will provide contemporary sports and play facilities, sitting within the residential setting, which will consist of 11 four bedroom houses, and 273 one and two bedroom apartments.

The site is located just off High Street, Hounslow, and to enable residents to access the town centre, pedestrian routes will remain.

Graham Cherry, chief executive at Countryside Partnerships South, said: "The regeneration of the town centre has been a high priority for the Council and local residents for many years and we are delighted to work alongside them in delivering an exceptional scheme that will benefit the whole community."

Executive director of development at Network Homes, Vicky Savage, said their priority lies with the local people.

"Our goal is not just to deliver beautiful homes but to create thriving communities which open up every possibility for local people," she said.
