The little ones have only just settled back into primary school after a long summer break but for parents it is already time to think about the start of school in September 2018.

Parents and guardians whose children are currently in Year 6 and looking to make the big step to secondary school next year should be aware deadlines to apply for their chosen secondary school in Hounslow close on Tuesday (October 31).

Missing the deadline means parents will risk their child not being offered a place at their preferred school, even if a sibling is already at the school as applications after the deadline will only be processed after those received on time.

Councillor Tom Bruce, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth services at Hounslow Council, said: "Applying online is really easy and I know many parents have found it quicker, therefore enabling them to apply in plenty of time for the deadline.

"For those parents still unsure about applying online, we have help and support available to make sure they can access and use the service fully, so I encourage them to make use of that.

"We’re committed to supporting our children in getting the best education possible and the best start in life and this includes providing the services that can help provide that."

Applications close at the end of October

The deadline applies to children moving into Year 7, which is those born between September 1 2006 and August 31 2007.

Applications are only accepted online, to apply click here .
