Hounslow 's Space Waye re-use and recycling centre will close for two weekends in the run up to Christmas to enable works to be carried out.
Since October last year, the centre has been closed to the public on Mondays and Fridays to facilitate the handling of waste from homes across the borough while a new recycling centre at Southall Lane was being built.
The Christmas works will enable Space Waye in Feltham to reopen to the public for seven days a week, accepting the borough's public and trade waste.
The recycling plant will be closed on the weekends of December 9-10 and December 16-17, with a full service beginning on December 18.
Much to the anger of local residents, Hounslow Council recently introduced a new recycling service to increase the amount of waste recycled from 31% to 50% by 2019.
Following the introduction of the new fortnightly black wheelie bin collection service, the council was bombarded with complaints about full bins and litter in the streets.
Where can I take my waste to when the plant is closed?
There are a number of options available for residents.
Waste can be taken to the following neighbouring sites in West London Waste Authority boroughs:
- Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, Townmead Road, Kew , TW9 4EL
- Greenford Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, Greenford , UB6 9AP
Residents with larger bulky items can book a Tidy Town collection which will entail a charge.
Locals are also encouraged to donate good quality furniture to the Hounslow Furniture Project which is able to collect items for free.
Charges may apply to vans and if disposing of building materials and DIY waste.
For a reduced cost of £30, residents can sign up for garden waste collection which provides a doorstep service until March 31 2017.

Residents can also email the council at: firstname.lastname@example.org for information and support about what can and can't be recycled.
