A major power cut in Hounslow has left 1,200 households without power for several hours during the first snowfall of the winter.

Residents first reported the outage at around 9.20am on Sunday (December 10).

Twitter user Sabel Khaan posted: "Making tea the old fashioned way on the hob with matches. No power in Hounslow this morning. @ssencommunity are on it!"

Up to 1,200 homes in the TW4 and TW5 postcode areas were without electricity in the morning with around 500 customers still affected at around 12.30pm , Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSE) said.

"For the power cut in Hounslow we are looking at a restoration time in mid-afternoon at around 3pm.", they added.

He added: "We would like to apologise.

"It is currently unclear if the outage was due to weather conditions in the area."

SSE confirmed having to deal with power outages in Thames Valley, Berkshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.

The Hounslow power cut was caused by "a fault with the network infrastructure", SEE said.
