A Hounslow MP has accused aides to Jeremy Corbyn and shadow chancellor John McDonnell of "illegally" entering her parliamentary office.

Seema Malhotra , who has lodged a formal complaint with Commons speaker John Bercow, says their actions have left her staff feeling "harassed, intimidated and insecure".

The Labour MP for Feltham and Heston claims to have evidence of three attempts to enter her House of Commons office without her permission between July 13 and 15, two of which were successful.

In a statement to the Observer, the former shadow cabinet member said the "unauthorised" entries constituted a "breach of parliamentary privilege" and a "violation of the privacy, security and confidentiality of a member of parliament’s office".

Accusations of intimidation 'untrue'

A spokesman for Mr Corbyn said the Labour leader's office manager Karie Murphy had accessed the office to confirm when it would be vacated, and accusations of intimidation were "untrue".

"It is a month since Seema Malhotra resigned as shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, and the office is intended for the person holding that position," added the spokesman.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show on BBC One on Sunday morning, Mr McDonnell said his office manager thought Ms Malhotra had already moved out of the office after resigning from the shadow cabinet.

He said she had apologised after finding members of the MP's staff still present and he thought "that was it".

'So distressing'

"She (his office manager) is now worried she's going to lose her job and face prosecution because it's been described as a break-in. That's just so distressing. It's unacceptable," he added.

Mr McDonnell went on to call on party members to cease their infighting and "unite".

Ms Malhotra resigned from the shadow cabinet at the end of June in protest at Mr Corbyn's leadership.

A motion of no confidence in Mr Corbyn was backed by 172 Labour MPs, prompting a leadership contest in which Owen Smith is now his only challenger.

The Hayes and Harlington MP Mr McDonnell was recently forced to defend his blue language after calling Labour rebels "f***ing useless" as "plotters".
