A local Harrow radio station has been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Hospital Broadcasting Association Awards 2016.

Radio Harrow received nominations for Station Promotion and Special Event awards.

The volunteer-run radio station based in Northwick Park Hospital , broadcasts to Brent , Harrow and Ealing after being created in April 2015.

The station now has 150 volunteers, broadcasting online and on the FM waveband to local listeners.

The Radio Harrow On Tour promotion and the coverage of The Colon Challenge with St Mark’s Hospital Foundation have been shortlisted for the awards.

Radio Harrow broadcasted live from Kings Cross at the finish line of the 280-mile Colon Challenge bike ride which raised funds for the bowel cancer charity St Mark’s Hospital Foundation.

The promotion for Radio Harrow On Tour featured highlights from the charity's summer of events and outside broadcasts in the community. This included school summer fairs, the St Luke’s Hospice Summer Fete, the Vaisakhi Mela and the Harrow Town Summer Festival.

'Tribute to the exceptional volunteers'

The Hospital Broadcasting Association is the national charity that supports and promotes Hospital Broadcasting in the UK.

Each year they showcase the work of The Award ceremony, this year taking place on Saturday March 19 in Watford.

Programming Manager at Radio Harrow , Gary Walker said: “Nomination for these awards is an honour for Radio Harrow and a tribute to the exceptional volunteers that strive to achieve a high standard of broadcasting.

“We are delighted at the prospect of continuing award winning programming from Northwick Park Hospital and maintain a standard of excellence in community and hospital radio."
