Hondas are the vehicle most likely to be in a road crash in west London according to exclusive analysis of Government data.

Trinity Mirror's data journalism unit has discovered Hondas are involved in 8.9% of car accidents in the area.

While Fords account for 9.1% and Vauxhalls 8.9% there are far more of these vehicles on the road than Hondas - which make up 5.8% of all cars with valid MOTs.

This means a Honda will more likely be involved in a crash.

Next on the list of cars most likely to crash were London Taxi International vehicles which make up 0.2% of all cars with a valid MOT but 3% of the cars involved in accidents.

Mercedes-Benz vehicles were third with 2.9% of accidents in west London involving one despite just 0.9% of vehicles on the road.

Volkswagens were the least likely make of car to be involved in an accident in the area with 8.1% involving a Volkswagen compared to 11% of all road vehicles.

These statistics were concluded by comparing accident road data from the Department For Transport and MOT data from the DVLA.

Based on figures from across the UK, drivers of Mercedes-Benz cars were the most likely to be involved in a car accident.

Mercedes-Benz vehicles make up 0.3% of all vehicles fit for use on the road in the UK but 1.4% of the accidents to occur in 2013.

Fords were the least likely to be involved in a car crash accounting for 15.9% of cars with valid MOTs but only 13% of accidents.
