Nearly £2million has been set aside for improvements to a historic building in the heart of Holland Park.

Improved safety and a larger outdoor seating area are some of the works which will be made to the terrace of the Grade I listed Holland House.

It will be carried out after Kensington and Chelsea Council invested £1.9million.

Work will include major landscaping for the terrace in front of Holland House, re-alignment of the service road and an improved and larger outdoor seating area for the café.

Features will include better use of space, improved safety and better visibility of Holland House from the park.

It is the first major works to the area immediately in front of Holland House since London County Council took responsibility for Holland Park after the Second World War.

Cllr Tim Coleridge, head of environment, environmental health, leisure and arts, said: “Holland Park is a popular focal point for entertainment in the Royal Borough, including the ever-popular Opera Holland Park.

“This investment in Holland House will further enhance the park’s reputation and create high-quality amenities that many future generations will be able to enjoy.”

The improvements follow a public consultation last summer.

Planning permission was granted in April and work is expected to start in September.

It will be completed in April 2018.
