A patient at a mental health unit in Hillingdon is in intensive care following a fire at a mental health unit on Monday (April 3).
Emergency services were called to the Riverside Centre in Pield Heath Road near Hillingdon Hospital at around 9.25am.
The patient is currently in intensive care at the hospital receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.
A statement from Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the mental health unit, said: “This morning there was a fire on Frays Ward at the Riverside Mental Health Unit in Hillingdon.
“The fire brigade and police were on the scene quickly and the incident is over."
No other patients were injured during the incident and two staff suffered minor injuries but are now back on duty.
The statement from the trust said smoke damage has been caused to the corridor outside the room and is expected to clear within 24 to 48 hours.
A full assessment is under way and 12 patients will be moved to other wards temporarily.
A statement from London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 9.25am and the incident was over for us at 11.36am.
"The first floor bedroom in the hospital was 10% damaged by fire.
“One adult was rescued by crews wearing breathing apparatus.”
Central North West thanked staff and emergency services who dealt with the incident.
