A petition with more than 1,300 signatures has been handed to Hillingdon Council to build a swimming pool in Yiewsley .

The former Yiewsley Pools were demolished by the council in 2010 after becoming too expensive to maintain.

At the time, the Yiewsley community was promised a new leisure and health centre but the site remains derelict seven years later.

In 2014, permission was granted for a £7 million health centre on the site but it was never built.

The council is once again looking at options for the site, and gave the green light for proposals to be made for a residential and leisure development on the former pools, bowling club and current library and car park site in a Cabinet meeting in May.

Local campaigners affiliated with yiewsley.org have argued that the closure of the pools has impacted the elderly and disabled the most, putting up barriers to accessibility.

West Drayton councillor Janet Duncan who was at the meeting added that St Matthew's School in Yiewsley were now being forced to spend £16,000 every year to shuttle pupils to and from the pool in Uxbridge.

The petition will be considered by the council at a later date.
