The Ealing jeweller accused of stabbing her abusive boyfriend to death in a Champagne fuelled rage screamed "he's dying, he's dying" in a desperate 999 call played in court.

Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27, is charged with murdering Stephen Rayner, 25, at their flat in Hanwell on September 17 last year, after returning from a family party.

Hart-Browne, of Baker House in Nightingale Avenue, stabbed Mr Rayner in the neck who, wearing only a pair of shorts, staggered outside and collapsed in a pool of blood, jurors heard.

Their neighbours said they heard her screams and tried to help the injured man as Hart-Browne held his neck and called for an ambulance.

Hart-Browne's chaotic 999 call was played to the jury in her Old Bailey trial yesterday (Thursday March 9).

She was heard screaming and crying as the operator tried to find out where to send the crew and the condition of the victim.

'My boyfriend has been stabbed'

Hart-Browne said in the recording: "It's Nightingale Road, please come quickly, please.

"My boyfriend... been stabbed, my boyfriend has been stabbed.

"He's dying, he's dying."

In between her screaming, she managed to say her boyfriend was aged 25.

Asked if he was breathing, she replied: "No, he's dead."

The operator then said: "Listen carefully, listen carefully. Is the attacker nearby? Is the attacker nearby? Please listen, is the attacker nearby? Is there anyone else I can speak... I need to get you the help you need."

'His neck is fully cut'

Neighbour Tariq Iqbal took the phone and answered the operator's question, saying: "Yeah, yeah, no no no. He's running away. He's run away."

On the state of the victim, Mr Iqbal went on: "Yeah but his neck is fully cut, his neck is cut, cut."

The operator said: "Listen, listen. So he's gone. Has he got serious bleeding?"

Mr Iqbal replied: "Yeah, serious bleeding, serious, serious."

Other neighbours stepped in and took instructions from the operator before paramedics and police arrived.

Described as a volatile relationship

Prosecutor Rosina Cottage QC has said the couple had a "volatile" relationship and the incident was the culmination of a row over Mr Rayner's cheating and Hart-Browne's jealousy.

Before police arrived, Hart-Browne went back into the flat and cleaned the bloodied kitchen knife, the court had heard.

After she was arrested, she allegedly said: "I have just killed the man I love", the court was told on Wednesday March 8.

She claims it was unintentional

The mother-of-two went on to tell police in an interview that she stabbed her boyfriend unintentionally.

Defending, James Scobie QC has described Hart-Browne as "emotionally dependent on the man she loved and the man she killed".

He has highlighted an emotional WhatsApp message in which she told of the abuse he subjected her to, calling her "fat and ugly".

Hart-Browne denies murder and the trial continues.
