Deafening horn blasts have been caught on camera at the short stay car park at Heathrow Airport .

Traffic was backed up inside Terminal 2 - The Queen's Terminal car park as drivers were trapped inside eager to get out on Thursday (September 22) night.

One person described the situation as 'total carnage' having been stuck in the car for almost an hour to exit the car park.

@mailliw who took the video footage, tweeted: “Total carnage at T2 short stay car park.”

A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said the situation last night was down to a combination of factors.

“There were a number of delayed arrivals and there are overnight works in the tunnel causing congestion," said a spokesman.

The tunnel works are taking place daily from 10.30pm to the early hours of the morning, and will continue until around early next year, the spokesman confirmed.

Problems for weeks

However in recent days and weeks the situation has riled passengers trying to leave the airport terminal.

On social media site Twitter, there have been mentions all week of reports of traffic jams.

Problems with a faulty light system have been going all week at T2 car park.

Traffic jam problems go back as far as week ago with one driver saying he was stuck for 45 minutes.

Even one month ago people were still complaining about having to sit in standstill traffic to leave the T2 car park.

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport added: “This is due to high demand. We apologise for the inconvenience.

“We're not aware of a faulty lights system but we'll investigate with the car park team.”
