Ten people arrested over a Black Lives Matter demonstration near Heathrow have been bailed by police.

Protesters blocked the M4 spur to the airport on Friday (August 5) morning, causing major hold-ups for travellers.

It was one of several coordinated demonstrations across England designed to cause maximum disruption, with others held in Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham.

Police were called shortly before 8.30am to the slip road at Heathrow, where a number of people were blocking the carriageway, some of whom had locked themselves to one another.

Officers arrested 10 people, all of whom have been bailed to return in October, and the protest ended at around 12.30pm.

The UK Black Lives Matter group staged the action to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the death of Mark Duggan, who was shot by police in Tottenham.

It said it was protesting against the "racist violence" of the police and other state bodies.

There have been many Black Lives Matter protests in the US, where a number of black people have been shot dead by police.
