Mystery surrounds the sudden disappearance of love locks recently spotted on Brentford Lock footbridge.

It seems love was short-lived in Brentford after more than a dozen padlocks attached to the railings on the footbridge have vanished.

A father and son from Bedfont who popped down to have a look at the site were disappointed to find it had been emptied.

Andi Barnes who went on a walk with his eight-year-old son Christopher to the footbridge last Saturday (March 12), said: “We popped to have a look at the love locks bridge only to find it without.

“I agree it was a beautiful thought and wished it had continued. Someone obviously thought otherwise.”

The first citing of the craze was reported by Shelly Robinson, who was on her way home from work when she saw the love locks on Friday (February 26).

However, just two weeks later, the symbolic everlasting gesture used by couples has been snatched away.

Similar crazes have become tourist attractions at London's Tower Bridge and Millennium Bridge, but Brentford Lock looks set not to join them.

Canal & River Trust who manage Britain's waterways and Hounslow council have both been contacted for further information.
